When not writing, Rayner can be found rating supermarket cheeses with unnecessary precision, painting, and entertaining the vague but persistent desire to escape corporate serfdom. They believe all literature needs humour, no matter how bleak, and have learned a lot about storytelling from Thomas Harris, James S. A. Corey, Fonda Lee, and Joe Abercrombie—who have yet to return the favour.
